Mini Messages to the Universe

What is this project about?

It’s a 100 Day Project about creativity and the myths we tell ourselves about. It’s about what’s possible, what truths often lie in hiding and what your creativity can be to you.

You Are So Very Beautiful

What is this project?

This project is about making handmade signs that have affirmations on them. You can stitch them or carve them or bake them or however you want to make them.

It’s about making something and then letting it go into the world with no agenda other than spreading kindness. Making something and giving it away for free asking nothing in return. Making something and hoping that the right person (that person who needs to hear the message) finds it.

Photos + kudos

Inspired by Sayraphim Lothian‘s idea of guerrilla kindness (you can see more examples here or read an essay about it in Craftivism: The Art of Craft and Activism), she started putting the signs out for people to find. Since then coordinated drops (where people have collected signs and set them around town en masse) have been done in Baltimore, Maryland (with Mary England); Vancouver, Canada (by a group led by Monica Miller); London, England (by a group led by Catherine West); Melbourne, Australia (by a group led by Sayraphim Lothian, images here); North Carolina State University’s College of Design (as part of Katherine Diuguid‘s class) and Durham, NC (by a group led by Betsy).

Signs have been made by individuals all over the world. Check them out over on Instagram at #yasvb.

Digital Joy Bunting

What is this project about?

This is a project meant to share joy and what makes you joyful. Because you are worthy of joy.

Where can I find out more information?

You can find out more details in the 6th episode of Dear Textiles, which you can listen to on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Stitcher and more.

How to participate:

  1. Make a piece of bunting about what brings you joy no larger than a piece of printer paper. (Or make several!)
  2. Be sure it includes: what brings you joy, why it brings you joy
  3. If you share it on social media, include #digitaljoybunting so I can see it and share it!
  4. If you’d like for me to share it, take a photo and email it to me at betsy@hellobetsygreer.com.
